Special election set for open state Senate seat

A special election has been set for state Senate District 9, formerly held by Clay Scofield, a Republican from Guntersville. So far, two Republican Alabama House members, Wes Kitchens of Arab and Brock Colvin of Albertville, have said they will seek the seat.  The special primary elections will be Jan. 9 and runoffs, if needed, will be Feb. 6. The special general election is April 23. “Majority Leader Scofield has been a strong voice for the people of Senate District 9 for more than 13 years, and I have no doubt that he will continue to serve our state well in his next chapter,” Gov. Kay Ivey
